Drying Up and Blowing Away

Adam and Makenna...he can just put her over his arm and burp her and she will calm right down. One day, she will be amazed that she fit over her Daddy's arm this way.
Adam and Samuel...these guys are 2 pea in a pod! Daaa DEE was his first word and Sam will repeat it over and over while he plays, but most especially when wanting his Dad's attention or when he is missing him.

Here is the littlest Guppy...Makenna...she is 8 weeks old tomorrow.

DOG PILE ON MAKENNA!
This has been a busy week! But I just want to say if anyone reading this needs a quick pick-me-up, look over in the sidebar for Kernal Ken's blog and read about his week. What an amazing family. When I am feeling particularly picked on, I take a look at the battle they are engaged in and I feel a bit better.
Just a brief weather report on Yuma, I finally broke down and turned the AC on Friday because the house was so stuffy and warm. Well, last night a cold front blew in and it almost became necessary to turn the heat on! It was about 25 degrees cooler today than yesterday. One last HOOrah before it gets hellish down here. Although, I must say, I love the fragrance of the citrus blooming. The air gets so heavy with the perfume, it is wonderful.
I have to give a big shout out to my mom and sister tonight. We had Stake conference today and I copped out because I had no desire to drag all 4 kids down to the Stake Center today! My mom came over about 9 am and became my extra pair of hands for the day. Debbie and ATC went to the meeting and came over about 2 pm. Deb took Andrew and Samuel to her home for a few hours so I could take a nap. I was in absolute heaven. My mom stuck around and napped with Makenna in the rocking chair so I didn't have to listen for her. ATC worked quietly on his science project for a few hours. It was nice to spend a bit of time with him and give him a little bit of undivided attention.
Adam left on Wednesday for the Eastern side of the state...selling furniture and having some tests run at the VAMC over there. I miss him! He is such an incredible help when we have a new baby. It feels like I have to cut another cord when he leaves for the first time after we have a baby! I give him a hard time about how he gets to "get away", but he has to work hard to sell his furniture too.
On the health front for me, my blood pressure is still dangerously high. I asked my doctor to give me 2 weeks before changing/modifying my prescription again just to see if my body will chill out and help Makenna get used to a bottle(Just in case). After praying quite a bit and asking for a reprieve of sorts, it is becoming quickly apparent that I am going to have to give up nursing Makenna if I want to get it under control. One of the biggest benefits to nursing is it shrinks the uterus back down to it's smallest size and help the mom get rid of the extra tissue (hope I'm not being too graphic here) more quickly. Usually, this cycle last days or a couple of weeks. Well, Makenna is 8 weeks tomorrow and there is no sign of this cycle stopping for me. My doctor hinted this may be contributing to my BP issue but he has not pushed it too much and has let me come to some of my own conclusions. Today I reached one of those conclusions...if I want to get a grip on this aged body of mine and start feeling better, breastfeeding has got to be concluded. I know it doesn't seem like a big deal to alot of people, but it really bums me out!
On the plus side, with my energy making a comeback as I begin to make the transition and reclaim my own body, my focus is moving forward. Cleaner house (at moments!), better temperament, and a desire to move forward with business plans. One day in the future a children's bookstore will be mine, but for now, I am going to try my hand at doing some bookkeeping from home. Rick(former boss) wasn't real interested in having me do his books from home unfortunately, so I am hoping to locate a couple of clients here in Yuma. We'll see how it works out.
I was kind of bummed this week to learn that a good friend of my sister's and a distant relative of ours, Allen, has died. he was only 43. He was a great guy. I loved his very dry, sarcastic sense of humor. He drove Deb's U-haul from SLC to Yuma when we moved here eons ago. I think the heat scared him off because he never came to visit! So, I want to sign off for now with a reminder to myself and anyone who may check in with me here, that if you have a friend or relative that you haven't spoken to in a while...or that you just need to touch base with, just do it! Life (and death) happens and I don't want to live with "Oh, I wish I would have called/written/emailed/hugged/apologized/kissed/stroked/smiled/winked/sat by/said hi/loved when I had the chance."
